Lime Crime is a cosmetic brand that’s all about color and expression, and it’s the creation of artist and cosmetics specialist Doe Deere. Lime Crime began as a blog creation and small social media-based company over 10 years ago but has now become a highly popular brand that certain celebrities like Taryn Manning and Katy Perry have come to use. What’s made Lime Crime stand out is not just its vivid colors in the makeup, lipstick and hair dye products, but also how its brought some of the fairy tale world into reality. Doe Deere loves both real and fictional animals including unicorns, and she felt the idea of a unicorn’s uniqueness fit what Lime Crime sets out to do very well.
Doe Deere’s story began in Russia where she once said as a little girl she would make fake tattoos and sell them to people out on the streets. Near the end of her teenage years she moved to the US to attend school, and one of her first dreams was to become a singer. She would perform as the lead singer in a band at night while during the day she attended a fashion school in New York, and when she started realizing music wasn’t going to be her claim to fame, she decided to focus on her fashion and cosmetics.
Doe Deere had already had the idea of using the internet to build her new fashion company, so she quit the fashion school early and actually opened her original Lime Crime store on eBay. It was her idea to do her own makeup as part of her product marketing that started leading to the Lime Crime brand’s identity of today, and mostly because the colors, shades and glitter that she wanted didn’t exist in the retail stores at the time. But Doe Deere started going to work making her own cosmetics and then sharing them on online tutorials with other users. Her blogs soon gave way to actual product sales and she realized Lime Crime could be a big success.
Doe Deere eventually moved to Los Angeles and opened up Lime Crime HQ and also formed a partnership with a cosmetics lab company. As the Lime Crime website states and as Doe Deere has repeatedly mentioned, all Lime Crime cosmetics are strictly vegan and no animals have been harmed in any product creations. Doe Deere has several pet cats herself and Lime Crime has supported several animal shelters and rescue groups themselves. Doe Deere frequently uses Instagram and Facebook to promote new Lime Crime makeup and lipsticks, but only of course after she’s personally tried them out. Most of Lime Crime’s products are ordered in the online store at LimeCrime.com, but you can also find them at several authorized retailers like Bloomingdale’s and Urban Outfitters.
